Financial Aid Information

How to Apply for Financial Aid: You may be eligible to receive need-based grants and/or loans by completing and submitting a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Financial Aid is awarded on an individual case basis and students must first meet the eligibility requirements. If a student is in default on a Federal Student Loan, he or she is not eligible to receive any Federal Student Aid until the default is resolved. If a student has reached the maximum

Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) for a Pell grant, he/she will not receive any additional Pell payments but may still qualify for other loans.

To select Florida Academy of Nursing as a school of choice on the FAFSA, the Federal School Code is 042923, or by name listed as “The Florida Academy of Nursing” located in Miramar, Florida. To discuss your financial needs, make an appointment with a Financial Aid advisor by contacting the Office of Financial Services at 954.322.1612 or send an email to [email protected]

Grants

Federal Pell Grant – is a federal grant awarded to students on the basis of financial need and does not have to be repaid. Grants are only awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree. In order to apply for a Pell Grant, students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The U.S. Department of Education uses a standard formula to evaluate the financial information provided on this application to determine a student’s eligibility for a Pell Grant. Award amounts vary based on a student’s financial need, an institution’s cost of attendance, and enrollment status

Loans

Florida Academy of Nursing participates in the Federal Direct Loan program which allows students and their parents to borrow money to pay for their educational needs. Student loan(s) MUST BE PAID BACK with interest. The loan lender and servicer is the U.S. Department of Education.

·        Direct Subsidized Loan – Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for a federal loan. Direct Subsidized Loans are for undergraduate students with financial needs. Graduate and professional students are not eligible. Repayment begins 6 months after a student graduates or is no longer enrolled at least half time (grace period). Interest is not charged (subsidized) on this loan while students are in school or during the grace period.

·        Direct Unsubsidized Loan – These loans are not based on financial need and are for both undergraduate and graduate students. Interest begins to accrue on unsubsidized loans from the time the loan is disbursed, and throughout to the repayment period until the loan is repaid. Students may opt to pay interest while in school or may request that the interest be added to the loan principal, to be paid during the student’s loan repayment period. Repayment begins 6 months after a student graduates or when they are no longer enrolled at least half time (grace period).

·        Direct Parent Plus Loans – are loans available to parents of dependent undergraduate students as well as graduate and professional students. This loan is designed to help students and their parents pay for educational costs. A PLUS loan is an unsubsidized loan. Interest accrues while students are enrolled for at least half time and during the grace period. A mandatory credit check is required and eligibility for this loan is dependent on the borrower’s creditworthiness. Repayment of principal and interest begins 60 days after the loans have been disbursed.

Students and parents who are interested in obtaining Federal Direct Loan(s) must complete Entrance Counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note.

You may be randomly selected by the Department of Education’s Central Processing System for verification or by your school to resolve conflicting information that appears on your FAFSA. Your school will request additional documentation to support the accuracy of information you reported on your FAFSA. Verification seeks to ensure that Federal Aid is disbursed to those who are eligible.
